The project at Neelkanth Apartments, Worli, constitutes the Rainwater harvesting and Solar water heating component. The water harvesting component includes the collection and storage of rainwater from the terrace of Neelkanth apartment of nearly 5000 liters each day. This water is directly used for flushing purposes during monsoon. The overflow of the tank is then used for recharging the existing borewell, which provides flushing water supply for the rest of the year. In addition, the surface runoff is allowed to percolate through recharge trenches and troughs, allowing rainwater to percolate down rather than gush out into the storm water system. The system is under implementation. There are two proposals for solar water heating. The first one is using BIS panels and the second one is using thermoplast panels. The maximum payback period for these systems is forty two months. The capital cost provides 100% income depreciation in the first year. After the payback period, the hot water for the building is free of cost. The system has no maintainance and lasts for 12 – 15 years, depending on water quality. |
